The Lobos needed just 91 seconds to prove their superiority and eventually get a 50-18 romp over Carter before 3,500 spectators at Kincaide Stadium.

The ease in which Longview won was similar to last season's Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff against Dallas Bryan Adams, a 68-0 Longview rout.

Longview struck the first blow as early as possible when Carziel Martin returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.

"I could see that everybody was blocking on the return," Martin said. "I didn't get touched until a guy nearly pushed me out of bounds at the end."

On Carter's second play from scrimmage, Teron Small fumbled and Markeith Woolridge returned the loose ball 19 yards. On the next play, Longview quarterback Damion Lewis found Sean Massey for a 19-yard touchdown pass to give Longview a 13-0 lead with 10:47 in the first quarter.

Carter muffed the ensuing kickoff and had to down the ball on its own four-yard line. On the next play, Carter running back Anthony Miller fumbled and Longview linebacker Drew Harden recovered at the Carter one-yard line.

Longview fullback Mark Johnson plunged in for a touchdown on the next play, giving Longview a 20-0 lead with 10:29 left in the first quarter, and the competitive stage of the game was practically over.

It was so bad for Carter in the first half, even its moment of success was tainted. Carter had a 63-yard drive in the second quarter, ending with an 11-yard touchdown run by Miller. On the ensuing extra-point attempt, Longview blocked the kick and Dacorris Ford returned the loose ball 88 yards for two points.

Lewis threw to five different receivers for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, including a 58-yard touchdown strike to Travrus Brown with 3:22 left in the first half. Johnson accounted for 66 total yards and two touchdowns.

Similar to last year's playoff against Bryan Adams, many Longview starters played sparingly or not at all in the second half. The Lobos concluded the first half with a two-minute drill similar to last week's key first-half drive against River Ridge (La.) John Curtis, with Johnson scoring a touchdown with five seconds remaining. On Friday, the Lobos moved 53 yards in 1:35, ending with a one-yard touchdown run by

Johnson with nine seconds remaining in the first half to give Longview a 43-6 halftime lead.

"After we played John Curtis, people thought we would overlook Carter," Martin said. "On a 100 percent scale, we were 80, 85 percent. We could have played better."

The loss continues a painful season for Carter (1-4) and coach Allen Wilson, who coached at John Tyler from 1991 to 2001. Carter has lost four straight games and has lost four games in a season for the first time in Wilson's tenure.

Longview's 91-second rush in the first half did not lead to gaudy offensive numbers. Longview had a slight edge in total yards, 317-307.

Reserve running back Jonathan Oliver led Longview in rushing with 90 yards, all in the second half, including Longview's last touchdown on a nine-yard run with 2:22 left in the third quarter.

Carter did get 246 yards rushing, 115 yards in the second half against Longview reserves. Robert Price led Carter with 86 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Cordarren Solomon also had a fumble recovery for Longview. William Levise and Chris Henderson had two tackles for losses each for Carter.

Longview hosts Lufkin next Friday. It's the second meeting of this season between the schools, with Lufkin winning the first, 16-13, on Aug. 31.
