LOBOS SHOCK STATE, BEAT OWLS
TYLER - It didn't take long to see Garland's jaws drop to the ground tonight at Rose Stadium. The Lobos came out swinging and took Garland prisoner all game long.

The Owls, who were 10-0 coming into the contest were shut out tonight and taken to the woodshed by the Lobos, losing to the underdog Longview team, 45-0. All of Garland's talk about winning the title this year came to a close very quickly. The Lobos proved how Dallas teams are overrated this year. Maybe now the sports writers in Dallas will take notice of our "little" East Texas district. Lufkin and Lee also won today, beating North Mesquite and Mesquite, respectively.

Garland underestimated the Lobos' deceptive 7-3 record from the beginning and Longview proved its worthiness, shutting down all aspects of the highly touted Garland running game.

Armstrong had an outstanding night, connecting on several long strikes to sophomore receiver Malcolm Kelly and junior tight end Tate Casey. On the first offensive play of the game, Armstrong tossed a 40-yard strike to Kelly for a touchdown, only to have the play called back due to an ineligible man downfield.; Armstrong then drove the Lobos down the field despite the penalty, scoring in the first two minutes of the game. And the scoring didn't stop there.

The Lobos were up 31-0 at the half. The Owls were forced to run plays from the shotgun in the second half, a rarity in the Owls' offensive scheme, because they couldn't gain any yards running the ball against a stout Lobo defense.

Garland's huge crowd began to leave early in the second half. By the fourth quarter, there were hardly any Owls fans left to console the team's loss.

With the win, the Lobos improve to 8-3 on the season and will meet another undefeated team next week, Dallas Carter (11-0), who is coached by former John Tyler coach, Allan Wilson. The game is 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at E.H. Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.
