LONGVIEW DEFEATS TYLER
TYLER - Longview High School won it's second UIL game of the season, when the local gridsters defeated the Tyler High School team at Fair Park in Tyler, Saturday, by a score of 3 to 0. This victory gives the local team an unscored-on record for the season thus-far, and a fair start for the district championship which the local high school is determined to win this season.

Credit for the victory Saturday goes in a large measure to Geno McCreary, who plucked off the three points from the 47-yard line, during the last minute of the game. Incidentally this is McCreary's last game with the local high school eleven, and his performance Saturday writes a brillant finale to his word for that team.

Tyler and Longivew had battled up and down hte field, often with the ball wthin the shadow of the goal line, while the tremendous fair crowd with a large sprinkling of Longview rooters admonished the contending teams to shove the ball over, when it appeared that their favorites had arrived at the crucial moments. But tightening up by both teams during these trying moments prevented a touchdown.

Longview High was palying a splendid offensive game and kept the ball in TYler's territory most of the time. Fred Lawerence was to punt the ball out of danger and was decidedly more effective in this department of the game than Tyler.

Longview tried three times for a field goal, but the firs ttwo efforts were failures and the way the situation was, it looked like a perfectly good game was going the no-score route. And then came the call for a kick from the 47-yard line.

With only sixty seconds to go, the ball was placed accurately. Mccreary swang back his good right foot and gave the ball a mighty heave.

The pigskin floated high and far, and sailed squarely between the Tyler goal posts. It was right then that the Longview fans broke loose and proved they had reserved their best cheering for the final and triumphant minute.
