Recap
LOBOS WRAP UP 13-5A TITLE
LONGVIEW - Pine Tree played cross-town rival Longview even for two quarters. Two quarters, however, do not a game make, because the second half was a whole 'nother story.

In a Vintage Lobo performance, Longview broke from the second-half blocks, drove 86 yards - highlighted by an unexpected pass - and never looked back in a 16-0 triumph to close the regular season Friday night at Pine Tree Stadium.

The victory, Doug Cox's 100th at the 11-year helm of the Lobos, sends the District 13-AAAAA champion into bi-district action next week against Killeen Ellison next Saturday in Texas Stadium. It was Longview's seventh straight victory after a 1-2 start and the seventh loop title for a Cox-coached team. Longview has lost just one district game, last year against Texas High, since Pine Tree's 22-20 win at the tail end of the 1982 season.

Pine Tree ends its campaign at 5-5. It was the seventh Longview win in the eight-game series with the Bucs.

"The (100th) doesn't feel any different than the others," said Cox. "The kids played so hard. I was afraid they might be down," he said in reference to his charges claiming the No. 1 playoff spot a week ago in an emotionally-charged 7-3 win over John Tyler.

"They just came out in their power offense, which they run so well, and it limited how much time we got the ball," said Pirates' boss Maurice Cook. "They have a tough, aggressive defense. We gave a good effort, I thought our players played hard, but I have to give credit to Longview ... they're the district champ and they earned it."

Longview tailback Thomas Snoddy picked up 100 yards (104) for the third straight game. Pine Tree's Rodney Jones rattled the Longview defense for 95 yards the first half - he finished with 112.

Longview receiver Brian Williams caught four passes for 78 yards and the game's first touchdown
